It’s Not Too Late To Take Spiritual Inventory
As we finally settle into this year, many of our well-intended new year’s resolutions have already been abandoned. Yet, it is not too late. This is early part of the year is the perfect time for us to still look back, as well as make plans for the future. But where do we begin, especially as it applies to our spiritual and psychic life?
Looking spiritually inward is not quite as simple as cleaning out our closets or drawers. We may have lingering negative influences we’re not even aware of. It’s human nature to want to keep old habits instead of creating newer, healthier ones. So, as we move into the year, it’s more important than ever to make ourselves spiritually healthy.
Your goal should be just out of reach, but not out of sight ~ Denis Waitley and Remi Witt
Writing down goals, hopes, fears, and wishes is a powerful tool. If we do this, we make it clear to the universe that these ideas are real. If it’s a list of things we hope to rid ourselves of, think of safely burning that list. As you do so, speak aloud, and tell yourself that you are letting go forever. This imagery is very powerful!
Keep in mind that if, for example, you are letting go of an old relationship, you are not wishing that person harm. You are just cutting the ties between you and them. Stay positive. You are looking forward, not backwards. Negative thoughts, feelings, and memories can drag us down spiritually. We don’t have to carry them with us.
One important intention all of us should set is to promise ourselves time for reflection, cleansing, and introspection. Some call this meditation or prayer; others may simply think of it as personal quiet time. Whatever tradition you practice, it is always a good time to look inward and rid yourself of “baggage” that you carry.
Journal your thoughts and start to see patterns emerging. None of us can be completely without negative thoughts, but we’ll start to see the triggers behind those thoughts. Create mantras or sayings of positivity. Make a collage of your thoughts. The more we know about our inner mind, the more we’re able to examine it and become spiritually healthy.
Life can be pulled by goals just as surely as it can be pushed by drives ~ Viktor Frankl
This is also an important time to set spiritual goals. Most of us make some sort of goal: lose weight, exercise more, spend more time with family. Our psychic and spiritual side can’t be neglected. Start small: set aside a half hour each day to engage in your practice. If you were training for a marathon and had never run before, you wouldn’t run ten miles on the first day. Our minds are like any other muscle.
You have the opportunity to choose what spiritual qualities you carry through your life. Have you ever heard the saying, “Garbage in, garbage out?” When we choose to carry bitterness, anger, and fear instead of hope, optimism, and courage, we’re not going to become spiritually healthy. Make the effort to take a psychic inventory of all the ‘stuff’ you carry, and see how much you can let go. Once you do, you’ll be surprised to see how much ‘lighter’ you’re already becoming!
