Soul To Spirit Connection
Although they may seem one and the same, our soul path is quite distinctive from our spiritual path. They are separate from each other, yet act in tandem with one another.
The easiest way to define how they operate is to look at the soul as the essence of who you are. In other words, the soul is your ‘home,’ while the spirit is the circumstances that help shape your life, like a ‘neighborhood’ where you reside.
Our soul path is the gifts and talents that we come in with and make use of. Our spiritual path is the given set of circumstances that provide us with growth, learning and movement forward, towards our sense of awareness.
Let us examine an example to assist with the clarification. A young soul may enter this domain, take on a masculine energy and from his very early days may have plans to become a doctor. This will be the essence of his soul path.
Every choice before you represents the universe inviting you to remember who you are and what you want ~ Alan Cohen
He would have warmth, understanding and compassion, and the true method for him to release these traits, is to work in a service where he can help others in what he subscribes to as a practical and thorough system. After all, who questions a doctor’s orders?
He would study hard, make sacrifices, and after many trying years, he would be ready to hang out his shingle. The young doctor may then attract a huge variety of patients and over the years his sense of self as a helper and healer will deepen. He will obtain a lot of credibility and reverence over time, as a result of his chosen profession. Feelings of fulfillment will begin to emerge inside of him.
However, his personal life may be another matter altogether, which would be his spiritual path. His two paths can easily operate as two separate happenings, but will definitely be related to one another.
Maybe this ambitious young man will be raised in what one would describe as an affluent home. His father, a very prominent surgeon, might have a problem with fidelity. Although appearing to be a doting parent, his mother may struggle with challenges of her daily existence and turn to drug prescriptions to help keep her feelings of inadequacies at bay.
These influences will readily create feelings of insecurity and anxiety in our young man, although he probably will not recognize these emotions any time soon. He might grow up believing this is true of most people’s lives and will not question the validity of the truths he has established for himself.
Our fine doctor may then marry a woman that he falls deeply in love with and fully expect to be able to spend the rest of his life in that loving world he has created for the both of them. After all, his troubled parents have never given thought to changing any of their circumstances and have not questioned the why’s or the wherefore’s of their union.
Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved ~ William Jennings Bryan
However, tragedy may strike. His beautiful bride might become terminally ill and despite the fact he has complete access to any new treatment and drug on the market, his soul mate expires and he will be left wondering what has become of the orb that he had felt so safe in.
These separate sets of circumstances, although interconnected, are not his actual soul path, but rather a portion of his spiritual path. And naturally, as he goes forward, other events will occur to help shape the rest of his existence on the planet.
In contrast, a female who arrives on this plane with exceptional intelligence and who appears to be destined for success and prosperity, may end up leading a very mediocre life and never completely fulfill her life’s ambitions. In time she may establish herself as a failure.
What is the difference between her and our successful doctor? One of the main reasons is that the doctor recognizes from the onset who he is and what he is ultimately to become, whereas our female never grabs on to her soul’s desire. Maybe she lives through a horrific childhood in order to complete her spiritual journey. At least she lives out that part of her earthly agreement, but she is ultimately unable to balance both paths.
Recognizing each path is not always an apparent or simple task, however if we can find a way to tap into both, see for ourselves how one can be part of the other, we can fulfill the purpose of both, or not. However, as long as we can manage to live out one of them, we have at least arrived at a small part of our goal.
