Talking To A Brick Wall?
“Hello…hello..?” Ever feel like you’re talking to a brick wall in your relationships? It could be when you are communicating with your child, your spouse or even a parent. It can be so frustrating to have to repeat yourself over and over.
In today’s world we are inundated with technology that causes a lot of the disconnectedness we experience in society. People’s attentions get fixated on things that are not of any real value or meaningfulness. Some of the ridiculous shows they put on television at night just leaves me with my jaw hitting the floor! How can we be that fixated on all this negative stuff? It’s disheartening. I sometimes wonder what life would be like if we focused on things that were of love, peace and just simple happiness. The Mass Extinction of Man
There are those who believe we may be facing extinction as a species – if we don’t change our ways. This idea is not as far-fetched as it may seem. The mass extinction of entire plant or animal families is something that has happened on several specific occasions in history.
The most well-known of these extinction events is the end of the ‘golden age of the reptiles’, when most of the dinosaur species disappeared. The small percentage that survived ultimately became the bird species that today still roam our planet. I have often wondered about the fascination children all over the world seem to have with dinosaurs. It is a subject that is a source of great enthusiasm for both boys and girls. Could it be that they intuitively remember the past, that the traumatic events of that time remains ingrained in our DNA to this very day? Continue reading
You Need Some Pop-up Preparedness
Life happens, therefore pop-ups happen to. What is a ‘pop up’? Well, a pop-up is something unforeseen that occurs to put a snare or trip you up in a negative way. It is a term I have invented for lack of a better one. I feel it’s a gentler way of describing those negative things that tend to pop-up during the course of our life that set us back in some way.
A family may have planned a very special time together, for example, and they had looked forward to it and patiently awaited that very enjoyable event. Then the phone rings and one of the parents has to go and tend to a new priority, and the child is left wondering what happened.
Well, what do we do in today’s world, where we live by the cell phones and social networking websites, and our friends’ and other people’s needs and desires, while putting those that we are supposed to treasure the most and love the most on the ‘back burner’. In the process our most intimate relationships suffer. Some of us just don’t know how to say no to those pop-ups! Continue reading
The Ghost Children Of San Antonio, Texas
Since it was Halloween a few days ago, I thought a ghost story would be appropriate. Although I could probably write a blog a day for months on my experiences with ghosts, I’ve chosen my favorite ghost story to share.
It happened around 18 years ago, while I was visiting a friend in San Antonio, Texas. I dropped my friend off at work and picked up her sister Lydia, who was from Texas. We set out to see the sites.
After seeing the Alamo and the River Walk, Lydia suggested we go see Mission Park located off of Military, a major, busy street in San Antonio. Lydia proceeded to tell me the story of a bus load of 1st and 2nd graders, some 50 years earlier, whose bus got stuck on the railroad tracks. The story goes that a train came and hit the bus, killing the children. Continue reading
Dust In The Wind?
I watched the movie 2012 for the first time… would you guess it… the very day before the first earthquake hit in Japan! I couldn’t believe my eyes, watching on CNN the earth breaking in half just like in the movie. Houses were being washed away and lives taken within a blink of an eye.
For some of us this news came as a shock, but not as a surprise. Many spiritually aware people all over the world had been on edge lately. Just like the animals, we feel it, we have an innate sense that things are a bit ‘off’.
After the news broke, I was feeling the need to do something to help out. I make scarves for children and I figured for every one that I make and sell I could donate half of the profits and send it to a proper cause, that I know will go directly to help in some small way. Every bit does help. Continue reading
