Temperance: The Promise Of A Balanced Life
One of my favorite cards I like to see come up in a Tarot reading is Temperance. Temperance represents a healthy balance between heart, mind and body.
The Temperance card is the 14th card in the Major Arcana, which is the suit that represents major arcs and themes in people’s lives. The Major Arcana consists of 22 cards of the total 78 in a deck of tarot cards, and they weigh more heavily in readings than those cards that make up the Minor Arcana, or the suit cards.
We’ve all experienced severe highs and lows in life, sometimes feeling like we are on a constant rollercoaster ride between extremes. We trudge through the lows in hopes we’ll get to experience the high again. Meanwhile, the highs are so exhilarating and amazing that we find ourselves seeking them out more than we seek true balance. Read the rest of this entry »
Free Yourself From Toxic Relationships
We have all encountered individuals who only seem to be in it for themselves. They are the kind of people who think only of their own wants and needs, and have no considerations for the people around them – friends and family included.
They are toxic people and they will do everything in their power to stay in your life and use you. It is therefore important to know how to identify these people and how to shake them loose.
Toxic individuals are best known for their disregard for those around them. They will ask for favors – your time, energy, money, sympathy and resources among many other things. But they will offer nothing in return. Perhaps they will promise this or that, but they never fulfill their promises and quickly become known for their lies. Read the rest of this entry »
Just One Memory Can Turn Your Day Around
As sentient beings, memory is one of our greatest treasures. Often times, however, we find ourselves lingering on bad memories. We allow the negative remembrances to define us rather than the positive ones.
It’s easy to do and cannot be wholly avoided. Traumatic events are simply more powerful than many positive things that happen to us throughout life, not to mention, more numerous. While trauma is an unfortunate fact of life, the way we cope and move forward with our lives is wholly in our capable hands.
Memory truly is a remarkable thing. Not all memories are air-tight accurate, but they are still unique and powerful for each individual. Remembering a good time in the past can turn my whole day around. For instance, the simple memory of my mom baking fresh bread – the smell, the work she put into rolling it out and watching her with rapt fascination – can remove a lot of negative energy from my aura. The Art of Saying No To Saying Sorry!
Needlessly, apologizing is a very bad habit to fall into. When you find yourself replying with the word ‘sorry’ whenever people complain about there being a hole in their shoe, or a traffic jam you’re both stuck in, you’re doing more harm than good.
Firstly, by automatically apologizing you are tacitly shouldering some blame that previously was not yours to shoulder. Secondly, when you are seen and heard apologizing all the time you are immediately, consciously or subconsciously, stamped as someone who can be taken advantage of by others. Thirdly, and most importantly, you are killing your self-confidence by assuming you are always wrong, always somehow to blame.
Avoiding this at all costs would serve you well. Apologizing for small things all the time is a gateway habit that leads to a worse one – apologizing for just being you! I cannot relate the number of times I’ve heard people apologize for themselves without solicitation. Read the rest of this entry »
Gotta Look On The Bright Side Of Life
These days it is pretty common to find yourself getting down and out. Between the gloomy news broadcasts and the gossip at work, as well as those days where everything seems to go wrong, throwing your hands up and giving into the negativity seems like the easiest thing in the world to do.
Somewhere along the line you’ve been convinced that there is nothing you can do about the poor state of affairs in the world. And each day you don’t hear back on that job application, or from that guy or girl you really like, is just more proof of your helplessness.
The fact is, when you give into the negativity you are really just making your life hell! The saying “negativity breeds more negativity” is 100% true. So is the opposite: “positivity breeds more positivity.” Read the rest of this entry »
Getting In Touch With Your Muse
The origin of the ‘Muse’ goes back to Ancient Greece, and it refers to any of a number of sister goddesses who represented song, meditation, memory, epic poetry, history, lyric poetry, music, tragedy, comedy, religious music, dance and astronomy.
Today, the word ‘muse’ is also used as a verb, meaning to think or meditate in silence on some subject, or to gaze meditatively or wonderingly.
Getting in touch with your inner Muse is the best way to find the divine inspiration you were looking for, as well as create a new perspective full of wonder and understanding. A Muse is not simply someone interesting with whom you are familiar, although that is one kind of Muse! No, Muses also live inside us, as part of our own divine spark. So, getting in touch with yours is easy. Read the rest of this entry »
Find The Magic At Your Local Bookstore
I recently had a client ask me if I could make any recommendations for meditation books. She’d been searching online and only found items like Meditation for Dummies. Her dilemma immediately reminded me of my time at university, and one professor in particular came to the forefront of my memories.
I was in college recently enough to know that the research method of choice for most students was to strictly make use online sources: articles, journals, databases and search engines.
Now, this particular professor I remember was as progressive about technology as her students, but one thing she did insist on was taking the time to go to the library and working through the stacks, looking for research material. Read the rest of this entry »
