Why does it hurt so badly when you love someone and that love ends? How can you carry on, when every part of you feels as if you are welting away?

All of us, at one time or another, have experienced some sort of love – a parent’s love, a friend’s love, a child’s love, even your favorite pet’s love. When it is a human love (for another it is different) your whole identity, all of your entire being, becomes enmeshed. You begin to live and breathe for that person. Your entire persona becomes all for one. Your every in each step you take is for that one person. You forget that you’re an individual. You forget who you are. You forget your dreams. You forget about you and your needs.

I can remember so clearly, like it was yesterday, when my cousin Lori passed away. It has been 14 years to the day. I loved her like a sister. We did everything together. Her mother was my mother’s older sister and my godmother. Lori and I were ten years apart to the month.

Aunt Emma, Lori’s mother was like a mother to me. Lori was an only child. From the day I was born Aunt Emma took care of me as if I were also her own child. Lori and I knew what each other was thinking before we even spoke. We had a special bond.

In our young adult life I depended on Lori for emotional support and almost everything about my life. We spoke on the phone daily sometimes several times a day. We shared our most intimate secrets and feelings. Read the rest of this entry »
