More than any other time in our history, we are aware of what is going on in the world through the wonders of technology. Our ability to communicate with almost anyone anywhere on the planet is an amazing gift.

However, we are now also able to see clearly many injustices and acts of violence, oppression and suffering around the globe, which many of us never knew were occurring.

For those of us who have a dream of a peaceful planet, this can be overwhelming. Most of us, who wish to affect change, often feel powerless and small. Perhaps we say to ourselves, “What can I possibly do? I am just one person.” Obviously, there are many practical things we can do outwardly to contribute to making this world a better place. We can recycle, volunteer for service, donate to charity, and many other acts of kindness that do make a difference. In this new millennium, technology is at the center of daily existence. Computers and cell phones rule our lives, so it is especially important to take time out, relax, and take care of our bodies to reduce stress.

What many people do not know is that our bodies’ energy centers, or chakras, are directly related to our physical wellness.  Luckily, ancient healing techniques like yoga and acupuncture are increasingly becoming mainstream, and they are making many more people aware of this concept.

Each chakra is connected to an endocrine gland (for example, the thyroid) and the various organ systems. Hormones from each gland regulate our whole system and control the effectiveness of our mind-body communication. By balancing and clearing each chakra, one may find immediate improvement in the efficiency of all bodily functions, and in turn, revitalize and increase strength to combat the day to day stressors in today’s fast-paced world.
