Why do we call multiple psychics for re-confirmation? What have we told ourselves in our ruminations? Have we been filling up our minds with self-doubt and mistrust? When they are receptive, I talk to my clients about being in the moment, and not creating a false reality in their own mind.
Living in the ‘now’ is one of the most powerful things one can achieve in your personal spiritual growth, but it remains out of reach for many. Our minds are always churning with lists of things to do.
We experience constant worry and anxiety, and we attribute reasons to the unreasonable, in our attempt to try and answer the question, why? We have so much judgment, self-righteousness and negativity. We create unnecessary problems for ourselves. Thoughts become actions, and we act on what we have told ourselves over and over again. Most of the trouble we bring upon ourselves originates in our own minds, and we bring that heavy load to our relationships and our interactions with other people.
All the things that truly matter — beauty, love, creativity, joy, inner peace — arise from beyond the mind ~ Eckhart Tolle
Our minds too often go on what seems like an involuntary ‘bender’, but it is up to you to control it and put your mind in a different state of awareness. Become more aware of the now. Come into the Present. ‘Being in the moment’ means experiencing exactly what you are doing at all points in time.
Think about what you are doing; be totally immersed in the experience. Let the experience sweep you away. When walking for example, smell the aromas and revel in the experience; it will arouse your senses and put you in tune with yourself and your true spiritual nature. Whatever you are doing, stay with it a hundred percent, and keep your senses and mind focused on the experience. You will begin to notice details you’ve passed countless times, and experience them for the first time.
If I had my life to live over, I would perhaps have more actual troubles but I’d have fewer imaginary ones ~ Don Herold
So many of us are prone to ruminating. We think the same thoughts over and over again, and this makes us uneasy and anxious. This thinking actually creates a false sense of reality, because we start believing that what we are thinking is true.
My personal most vulnerable times for ruminating are when I’m in the shower – when I am shampooing my hair, or when I’m drying it. I find myself getting out of the shower, and realizing what I have once again been thinking of unresolved past issues, or that I am again experiencing fear of the unknown, or what I ‘should have’, ‘could have’ or ‘ought to have’ done in some situation.
To reign myself in, once I become aware of this negative ‘self-talk’, I immediately say, “Oh no, I should be over this!” I remind myself that I don’t want to start another day with doubt and negativity, and I switch the channel immediately. I then make a point of thinking about how I will style my hair instead, or where I will go today, and what wonderful new adventures may await me. I then begin to experience every aspect of my current activity by being fully present and it sets the tone for the rest of my day.
We can easily manage if we will only take, each day, the burden appointed to it. But the load will be too heavy for us if we carry yesterday’s burden over again today, and then add the burden of the morrow before we are required to bear it ~ John Newton
Instead of ruminating too much today, meditate instead on these wise words, from a poem that has been attributed to a variety of sources, although it remains a mystery of who was truly responsible for writing it:
Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; for it becomes your destiny.
