Empower Your Inner Dialogue

click here for a free psychic reading at PsychicAccess.comDo you talk to yourself when you’re alone? Or maybe you even do it when others are around! Everyone has an inner dialogue going on, pretty much at all times. Sometimes we notice it, but very often it just becomes like a white noise that punctuates the rest of our never-ending thoughts.

But what is this inner dialogue about? What is it saying to you? And what do you believe about the things you hear in this internal conversation? Have you ever stopped to ask yourself these questions? Or to really pay attention to how you’re engaging in this most intimate conversation?

If our thoughts become our reality, it is our internal dialogue which creates the lens through which we are manifesting our world. How we interpret our experiences and emotions, what we believe about them and ourselves, colors what we are creating for our tomorrow.

We are all either conditioned by belief system or consciousness. Belief system is built through the world, consciousness is built from within ~ Matthew Donnelly

So, ask yourself: are you kind to yourself? Are you optimistic? Perhaps you already know the answers to these questions. I often speak to people who are struggling with a negative view of themselves, or have a pessimistic view of their reality. Shifting from a place of negative or defeating self-talk, to a place of empowerment takes a bit of focused attention. Doing so can super-charge your ability to manifest and to live in a state of flow with Universal abundance.

Notice that when you think one thought, it doesn’t just remain an isolated thought. One thought spurs on other thoughts, and we make a choice to either follow those trails, or not to. Our brains become trained as we do this, and as a result if we are always going to the negative aspects in our lives, our brains are going to come along with us and this becomes habit.

One of the best methods to take control of this conversation is, of course, through meditation. Quieting our mind allows us to take note of the intrusive thoughts that are not in our highest and best good. It also focuses our attention on our consciousness as separate from our thoughts. This helps foster the understanding that these thoughts are just experiences which we can choose to engage in – or not.

If meditation seems a bit too ambitious to start with, that’s okay! Here are four additional steps you can take to help you create a more harmonious inner world.

Become Aware Of Your Inner Dialogue

If meditation isn’t something you feel ready to try, you can start by just spending some quiet time alone. This means no television, no devices, no music. Just you and your thoughts.

Pay attention to what you’re thinking about. What are the feelings that come up associated with those thoughts? Being alone and undistracted allows our inner conversation to take center stage for a time. This allows us to observe and determine where we want to make changes.

Plant Positive Seeds

Instead of trying to rid your mind of negative thoughts, instead simply start adding positive ones. When you catch yourself being critical of yourself or of a situation, consciously make yourself think of 3 positive aspects. This takes your mind away from the negative and, at least for a few moments, offers a different perspective.

Doing this is going to feel very unnatural at first. Stick with it! In time, this will become natural for your brain and you won’t even have to make a conscious effort to bring these positive thoughts forward.

Basically, don’t worry about trying to ‘get rid’ of the negative thoughts. Instead begin by consciously creating the positive thoughts you do want.

Affirmations And Gratitude

I know we hear this all the time, but the truth is – affirmations work! You just have to be consistent. Try adding a note to your bathroom mirror that asks you ‘what are you grateful for today?’. Make a habit of listing three things every morning that you have to be grateful for – even if you have to stretch for it.

You can also make a Why I’m Awesome journal in which you write down three successes you had that day. These don’t have to be amazing things, give yourself credit for the small stuff. Little things add up to big things.

Come Back To The Present Moment

Typically when we are stuck in a negative cycle of thoughts, we are worrying about the future or beating ourselves up over past events. When you catch yourself feeding into these kinds of thoughts, bring yourself back to the present moment. What are you doing right at that moment? How are you feeling?
Acknowledge your emotions and allow yourself to feel them. Very often when we are worried about things we are resisting anxiety and fear. But these are totally natural emotions! Acknowledging them, allowing yourself to feel them, and accepting them as part of your current experience can help bring about a sense of relief.

Remember that everyone has hard days. It’s especially important to be self-loving during these times. Give yourself room to feel what you need to. Shifting out of negative inner dialogue isn’t about turning away from our darker emotions. It’s important to process and move through those emotions, and to honor them as part of our journey.

The goal here isn’t to never have negative thoughts, but rather, to manage what it is we believe about these thoughts and about ourselves. What are we ‘buying into’, and is it in our highest and best good? Getting to know ourselves on this level can transform our perspectives on the world and our place in it, and thus it can transform our future potentials.
