Through The Eyes Of A Medium

click here for a free psychic reading at PsychicAccess.comI am blessed to work side-by-side with my husband teaching various spiritual classes. Mediumship development is a significant part of our class offerings.

My husband and I have very different teaching styles and receive information from Spirit quite differently. This allows us a combined knowledge and experience base to work from. Our unique gifts and personal approaches have been a godsend in teaching students how to receive and understand messages in order to be able to do mediumship readings.

Over the years we have found that many people start out with grand expectations of how a connection with Spirit will happen; and how easy it will be to make sense of the whole session (whether as the reader, or the receiver). Quite often, we see our students become frustrated when something magical or miraculous doesn’t happen in their readings, especially in the beginning.

For those who are new to mediumship readings, I think it’s helpful to understand what it is really like to connect with someone who has transitioned to the Other Side.

So, what is it like to ‘see through the eyes of a medium,’ and what is the meaning of those brief pauses, or when you hear us mumbling to ourselves in the middle of a reading? And what just happened when the medium says something like, “Oh wait, now I understand what they’re saying?”

Receiving clairvoyant images is one thing, but not all clairvoyants are gifted at interpreting what they see ~ Anna Sayce

As humans, we are all unique in how we perceive the world, both physically and spiritually. My experience has shown me that some people ‘see,’ while others ‘hear,’ and a majority of people I’ve worked with simply ‘feel.’ I am blessed to receive information through all of the psychic senses.

But what does it mean to ‘see’? I’ve heard mediums say, “I see it like a movie playing out in front of me,” as they explain how they get their information. While I can appreciate that description, I think we need to give a more realistic explanation. Yes, sometimes I will see it ‘like a movie,’ but it’s not the complete movie! It might not even be the entire ‘scene.’  Instead, it might only be split seconds of a ‘scene.’ I then need to decode that small bit of information, if it’s going to truly make sense to the person receiving the message.  It’s almost as if the person in spirit is showing me or allowing me to feel a small piece of a memory. As you know, quite often when we recall memories, they are generally little snippets of a bigger story. Our memories might include colors, smells, words or simply feelings. The same thing usually happens when those in spirit communicate with us.

That brings me to my next clarification about clairvoyance or psychic sight. Sometimes all I see are images, much like snapshot pictures. But, while in the physical world I can study a picture for a long time, it’s quite common for the picture in my psychic vision to only last a few seconds! Think of the way the Snapchat app works on your phone, as an analogy. I might only get to see a quick glimpse for a second or two. Sometimes we can hold on to the image longer, but more often than not it’s quickly shown, and then gone.

Here is my secret. It’s quite simple: One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Much symbolism also occurs in readings. I have had many experiences where the person in spirit is not very clear, or they communicate more in feelings and symbols than with straight words or visual memories. For example, during a reading I did the person in spirit was communicating mostly through feelings, emotions and physical symptoms I was feeling in my body. Spirit was not ‘talking’ to me with words.

Then, all of a sudden, I saw a maple leaf. I have learned to never censor myself with information, no matter how odd it may seem. The person receiving the reading did not understand what the maple leaf was. I asked spirit to show me a different way.  The word Canada flashed in front of me. I asked the person in front of me if their loved one had a connection to Canada. Yes, the person in spirit did. In fact, they had lived in Canada all their lives and didn’t speak a word of English! Immediately we then understood why they showed me the maple leaf. Maple leaves are quite symbolic of the country of Canada, and it even appears on the Canadian flag.

At times you will notice mediums pause, and appear deep in thought, right in the middle of your reading. Please know that it is in those still moments that we are likely playing Sherlock Holmes, trying to decipher and piece together clues that are given in bursts of words, feelings, emotions and pictures.  Usually those bouts of silence may be followed with an excited “Oh, I’ve got it now,” or something similar.

I love the work I am able to do as a medium and the help it provides people, but it certainly does take some detective work at times. I hope it’s been helpful to have a brief peek ‘through the eyes of a medium.’
