The Power Of Perspective

I’ve recently noticed two areas of my teaching where the concept of ‘perspective’ has been coming up a lot. Most notable when I work with people on Manifestation and the Law of Attraction, and during the Intuitive and Mediumship development classes in regards to giving readings.

Let me explain first, why it’s important to understand the power of perspective. Perspective can be the difference between success and failure. It can mean continued pain, or the path to healing. It can be seen as opportunity or challenge. A perspective can be confusing, or offer you complete understanding. The thing with perspective is that it is 100%  personal and individual!

Perspective is the story we apply to a situation or event. Several people can witness the same accident, yet each will have a different version or perspective on what happened. Several people can read the same book and give you a completely different explanation of what they believe it was about.

In the presence of eternity, the mountains are as transient as the clouds ~ Robert Green Ingersoll

Think about when a couple separates or goes through a divorce. Different perspectives is often applied to what actually happened to the relationship. One thing is for sure, as a bystander, or even when we are in the midst of a situation,  we must be very careful with our perspective… as it may lead to judgment. Judgments cloud facts. Also remember, that it is very common for your perspective to shift and change over time.

Now, when we talk of manifesting, we know that thoughts are very powerful. In accordance with the Law of Attraction, you attract into your life those things, circumstances and conditions that correspond with the nature of your dominant, habitual thoughts and beliefs, both conscious and subconscious. The basic premise of the Law of Attraction is that like energy attracts like energy.

Whatever you focus on is magnetically drawn to you and grows.  Every single time. So, here’s something that people often miss in regards to their perspective with the Law of Attraction. If you spend all your time trying to focus on understanding your problems, issues or perceived limitations, then guess what you will very likely be attracting and creating more of in your life? Maybe more of these problems, issues or perceived limitations, right? Right.

So, even though you have been working so hard on your spiritual development, trying to understand and fix the problem, you may start beating yourself up with the perspective that you are failing and give up. But wait… there is a solution to this. Simply switch up your perspective to the situation. If you notice that your constant focus on understanding the problems is just snowballing things… then do not focus on the problems! Focus instead on your desired outcomes and ask for solutions to be shown to you. By changing your perspective you’ll find you start manifesting those things you want.

Another thing that comes up where perspective can be confusing is during psychic or mediumship readings. Remember how I said that several people could read the same book and give different accounts of the story? Well, that can happen in readings as well. This is how I explain it to my mediumship development students. Let’s say that both I and another medium do a reading for you. Some of the information we give may be similar, and some of it may be very different. It doesn’t mean that one of us is right and the other is wrong. It likely means we are just getting a different perspective to the big picture.

As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. As a man sees in his heart, so he sees. Through unclean windows, lenses, senses, we see things not as they are but as we are ~ Jersey Journal, 1914

For example, I might see your grandfather as someone who made you laugh and always gave your quarters simply because he liked to see you smile. I see him as a kind, gentle man. The other medium might see your grandfather as someone who really cared about his family and made it his priority to provide for them. In fact he worked at least two jobs at any given time. A different message? Yes. But perhaps not so much. Perhaps we are just seeing a different perspective of your grandfather.

And a final note: remember that perspective comes from our own life experiences. When we are faced with challenges we might get frustrated and see things from a place of panic, fear, anger, or hurt. When you are in viewing things from that perspective it can be really hard to see solutions or to see anything good at all. When you find yourself viewing something as a challenge, try switching your perspective to finding an opportunity for growth, healing, grace, love or compassion. Switching your perspective might just give you the power and strength you need.
