Lilith Survival II

Click photo for a free reading at PsychicAccess.comIn my previous post I mentioned some astrological points that are in all our charts, namely, Lilith. This concept in Astrology is named after the female demonic figure Lilith in Jewish mythology. There are so many dark stories and myths surrounding Lilith, and therefore some scary points in Astrology have been named after her. Her name evokes thoughts of the mysterious, malevolent, sinister, forbidden and catastrophic. The negative is certainly valid, and it is up to the native to act out these energies in an, if possible, positive way.

I also described a not-so-evil feature of Lilith – one that came to me through meditation. The positive energy I received was about survival. This dark goddess is not all bad. She shows us how to work through situations we can’t always describe to others.

The contemporary feminist movement found an inspiration in this image of Lilith as the uncontrollable woman and decisively changed the image of Lilith from demon to powerful woman ~ Rebecca Lesses

Lilith is often associated with sexuality used in a not-so-good way. My meditation revealed much more than sexuality. It revealed someone, usually a woman, who will do anything to survive, even if it breaks traditional and societal taboos, and who uses talents developed and undeveloped.

In a man’s life, these energies don’t seem to scare people as much, but in a woman’s life, and this is very important to make note of, the same energies are considered threatening. To be able to survive is considered a valued skill set in a man’s life, but when a woman possess the same traits, she intimidates or scares others. She breaks societal taboos, the most prevalent of which are created by the traditional patriarchy.

Lilith is not docile and obedient, but instead she is theoretically both the hunter and the gatherer. The original myths of Lilith are certainly forbidding, but she ultimately is the female archetype who refuses to be second to man. Men pine after her, but will never have her as his constant companion. So they deride and ostracize her. She also makes pacts with the angels, who allow her freedom without harm.

Lilith in a man’s chart may reveal the powerful women who influence him. There are four Liliths in astrology that are most prevalent in our personal astrological makeup. I will briefly describe each one.

Asteroid Lilith

First, the energy I connected to most likely had to do with asteroid Lilith, a tangible point in all our charts. Asteroid Lilith influences relationships. This is where we see our attitudes toward sexuality and power; experience rage at its suppression; where we violently refuse to be subordinate; or use subterfuge and manipulation to gain it. We refuse to compromise our beliefs and may do so in a self-destructive way.

When provoked, this person is not patient and cajoling, but instead may defend her beliefs in a destructive way, instead of patiently using her feminine wiles in a less threatening manner to get her way. The place in our charts where Asteroid Lilith resides is where we refuse to be subservient.

Feminism isn’t about making women stronger. Women are already strong. It’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength ~ G. D. Anderson

Dark Moon Lilith

Dark Moon Lilith is the apogee of the Moon, where the Moon’s farthest from Earth point is. Its archetype is the Goddess. In the beginning there was The Goddess, who was later suppressed by the patriarchy, by the idea of ‘mankind.’ The Goddess was only permitted by the patriarchy to continue her existence in the guise of The Virgin Mary, and in only very tame aspects.

This point in our charts shows where we receive second best, or where we reach for what we want and get something else instead. We may get what we need but not what we want, despite our best efforts. No matter how hard we try to come out on top, or in first place, something will come along that shoves it out of reach. This does not mean we won’t ever be successful, only that we may not ever get exactly what we want.

The Moon rules our needs, so it follows that the Dark Moon would hold them back, resulting in frustration. This is where we make unwanted compromises, or we use what is nearby or offered instead of what we directly need or want. This Lilith recognizes these limitations and is where we release restraints and frustrations, perhaps suddenly, secretly and destructively, and then heal the damage afterward.

Black Moon Lilith

Black Moon Lilith is that point in space around which the Moon revolves, and has been called the Earth’s shadow sister. It is not a physical point, but it is an important point in the Moon’s orbital dynamics. She is like our idealized fantasy of freedom.  I compare her to a witch riding a broomstick around the moon, or a spiritual aspect where we transcend our physical realms to astral project. We can find this freedom in meditation and fantasy.

It may be this Lilith focus controls the unseen parts of our emotional makeup, whereas the visible Moon controls the part we express. It is those parts of us we keep suppressed and hidden, those fantasies we’d never admit to having so as to maintain our civilized facade. We have these fantasies to comfort ourselves – the opposite of what we experience in parts of our lives when we get taken down by others, where we never get ahead, where others do wrongful things to us and where we can do very little about it.

The Alphabet of Ben Sira appears to combine legends of female demons with the idea of the ‘first Eve.’ What results is a story about Lilith, an assertive wife who rebelled against God and husband, was replaced by another woman, and was demonized in Jewish folklore ~ Ariela Pelaia

Algol Lilith

The fourth Lilith is actually the fixed star Algol, often recognized as the most malefic star in the Universe. I will not list here the grisly actions this star causes, but will say its effects have to do with the strong passions that are expressed in planets and asteroids in our own charts that aspect with this star.

This Lilith sees to affect entire nations, or at least has a widespread affect, and is not solely associated with women, and indeed has aspects that cause wars, wide-spread violence and destruction. One should have a personal chart cast and seek a careful interpretation of these Lilith aspects. It tends to indicate strong, consuming passion that is expressed through the planet or asteroid with which it connects.

My Lilith survival study revealed to me where she provides women with the strength to overcome adversity and gain control of their own lives, in order to achieve their highest goals. Lilith is not where we play nice all the time. It’s where we do what we must do to deal with our needs. I did not cover many deeper aspects here, because of time and space, and yes, I admit, a desire to be nice and civilized in public.

Every individual’s natal chart is unique and personal, requiring tact in these matters, and I will be happy to can help you work through and interpret these points in your individual birth chart.
