Developing Your Own Psychic Symbols

Get a free reading at PsychicAccess.comIf you are wanting to develop your psychic abilities, making time to practice, and developing your own set of psychic symbols, are key to seeing results. At some point, if you’re consistent, you will start seeing evidence that you are opening up psychically. One of the first things that showed up for me was that I started to have vivid dreams at night that seemed to come true.

I have always kept a dream journal and have always been interested in my dreams. I read a lot of books on dream interpretation and analysis and have always thought that my dreams were trying to tell me something. But when my dreams started playing out in real life, I was quite amazed. And this may be the first area where you can get very clear, concise messages from your intuition – from your dreams.

It is through symbols that man consciously or unconsciously lives, works and has his being ~ Thomas Carlyle

I suggest you keep a dream journal in your attempt at psychic development. There’s something about reading something you wrote two weeks ago actually happening that is so awesome and undeniable. But you will also have dreams where the real life events don’t play out the same, but your dreams symbolized the event and foretold it just the same. I will give you an example of one of my own dreams coming true, but not quite in the way it was presented to me.

When I first moved to Los Angeles in the early Nineties, I started having dreams about a huge earthquake. These dreams were very vivid and I would keep thinking about them all day long after waking. I saw landmarks of Los Angeles, and often there would be a clock tower that had fallen with the time stopped at 1:15. The sun was out and there were huge clouds of dust everywhere.

For over a year I had these dreams and I told people I knew that I was worried that they were prophetic. I could never get a clear idea of what time of year it was – no calendar, no holiday decorations, no clues. But I saw the clock stopped at 1:15, so I figured it was going to happen at that time in the afternoon. When we finally had an earthquake on January 15th at 4:30 am it didn’t occur to me that the date was 1-15. So, I thought my dream wasn’t really very accurate. That I got a clock instead of a calendar showing 1:15 is just one of the ways that dreams can be slightly different from real life.

Often psychic information that shows up as a vision, voice or feeling can also be slightly different or symbolic, instead of straight forward. When I don’t have any idea whether what I’m getting is symbolic or literal, I will ask the person I’m reading for if what I’m getting makes any sense to them. Sometimes it does, and then the message is delivered.

I suggest, when you’re first starting out, to just say what you’re getting first, and then attempt to decode it for symbolic meaning afterwards. One of the things I’ve learned to do is to ask my guides to use certain symbols for certain things so getting information isn’t so hit and miss. You can have your own dictionary of symbols that your guides will use with you, so that the messages are more clear. Invite your guides in and ask them to show you certain images for certain things, such as a red balloon for a birthday party, white bells for a wedding, two rings for an engagement, and so forth. Spirit speaks in symbols and with some practice, you can develop your own language between you and your guides.

Everything can be linked together in some fashion, in either a physical, psychological, or symbolic manner ~ Buckminster Fuller

Often, my guides will show me someone I know well, during a reading with a client. They do this to give me an idea of the personality of a person in the client’s life, or a name in common, or an occupation in common. At first, I just had to guess which it was, but after sitting down with them and working out some additional symbols, I have a system  now that I use to tell which aspect they are trying to convey.

For example, If I see my Uncle John, I would have to guess if the guy in my client’s life was a truck driver, or was always joking around, or if his name was actually John. But, now I will see my uncle holding a certain object in his hand and I know which of those three things they have in common. Obviously, this will take some time, but it’s worth it.

I think it’s useful to read books on psychic and dream symbols, but always, what the symbol means to you should matter and be used the most. If you are afraid of dogs, you probably don’t think of dogs as the symbol for ‘friends.’ You may use another animal or bird to mean ‘friend.’ And you can tell your guides what to show you – an image to give a certain message. And if you aren’t visual, you can have a certain tune play for different things, or different sensations in the body. It’s hard work ironing out the symbolic language you will use with your guides, but it will really help your psychic and mediumship readings.

An easier way to develop a language is to use a divination tool, or an oracle. The most well known divination tools are probably the Tarot cards and the pendulum. There are others, such as the I Ching, the Runes, Astrology and Numerology and several modern oracle systems, such as charms and oracle card decks.

Working with these divination tools takes practice, so it isn’t really a shortcut. Tarot can take years to truly master, but you may find that you can do a pretty good reading early on in your practice. What’s important is for you to find one that resonates with you and spend time practicing with it and your guides. It’s also perfectly fine to not use anything, if that’s what feels right to you.

I like to use Tarot cards in my readings, because messages come through faster than waiting to receive answers strictly from intuition. Of course, I still am getting messages from my guides, but somehow the cards fall in exactly the right way for me to see what I need to see. So, I do read the cards, but I also augment the reading with guidance from spirit. It is rather amazing that this works, and works so well!

Man’s ultimate concern must be expressed symbolically, because symbolic language alone is able to express the ultimate ~ Paul Tillich

I remember when a friend of mine asked me to do a reading on a business decision she had made, and it didn’t look so good. She said, “I don’t like those cards, here, use this deck.” and handed me her cards from her purse. When we used her cards, the reading was the same with many of the exact same cards falling in the same places. Still not good.

She ran to her house to find another deck, and I proceeded to shuffle and deal the cards from that deck. Once again, the same message. Not a good thing to do for her business. It seems impossible that you would get the same message from three different decks of cards, but this is what is so amazing about divination, divine guidance and the spiritual realm. It is consistent. So, by all means, if you feel drawn to use a divination tool, use one. Or two or three, if you want. Your guides and angels will work with you and your chosen oracle.

I also like to pay attention to signs, synchronicities and omens in nature and my everyday life. If you find a feather from a certain bird on your doorstep, look up the message of that kind of bird. If you go for a walk and a fox crosses your path and that’s unusual, find out what the fox is saying. I have gotten messages from watching the clouds change shapes as they go across the sky. I have noticed in tree branches the shape of the letter ‘E’, that had significance soon after I saw it.

Messages are being delivered to you all the time. Start paying attention to all the subtle things that go on every day. Practice mindfulness in everything you do. Start noticing patterns – in behavior, in events, in nature. This helps you to know what is coming next. To be open psychically, you must first become fully aware.
