The Sun And The Bat

Get a free psychic reading right now at PsychicAccess.comThere are many stories about the Sun and the Moon that have been passed down through the generations. A lot of them are instructional, passed from mother to daughter, and father to son, in order to teach the young about the pitfalls and lessons of life. Some African tribes tell a tale explaining why you never see the bat and the Sun in the sky at the same time.

In the beginning of time, Creator sent his messengers to gather all creatures, great and small, to receive their purpose. The messengers were given a specific time to arrive so they would all be there before him.

The messenger assigned to bring Sun was Bat. He wasn’t very diligent and was easily distracted along the way. So, when all the other creatures had been given their assigned roles in the world, and Bat had not yet returned with Sun, Creator sent Dove. Dove was one of Creator’s most trusted messengers and was sure to complete Bat’s task and bring Sun to him.

When the Sun finally appeared before Creator, he was given the task of lighting the world so that people and animals could walk about. This was not what the Sun considered a glorious duty and he developed a dislike for Bat. He felt he was given a mundane job, because Bat hadn’t fulfilled his mission and delivered the message to Sun on time, which displeased Creator.

It wasn’t long before Sun had an opportunity to exact his revenge. Bat lived with his aging mother and over time she grew very ill and close to death. He asked Antelope to prepare medicine to help her regain her health. After Antelope examined the frail mother, he sadly shook his head and told Bat, “I am truly sorry, but I cannot help with this illness, only Sun has medicine big enough to bring the aged back to health.”

Bat set out right away to seek Sun’s help for his dying mother.  Sun was very surprised to see his enemy, Bat, coming up his path. Coldly, without even greeting Bat, he said, “If you have something to say to me Bat, speak now so we can be done.”

Bat explained his dilemma to Sun and without hesitation asked for medicine for his mother. Sun replied that it was necessary to return to his house, for the medicine to be prepared, and instructed Bat to return the following day.

Early the next morning, Bat began his journey to Sun’s house, but before he could reach it, he met Sun on his path. When he requested the medicine, Sun said, “I told you to meet me at my house. Instead you met me on my path after I began my day’s journey. Once I leave my house I cannot return until the day is completed. Go back and meet me at my house tomorrow.”

Bat went home and earlier the next morning again headed out to Sun’s house. Once again he was too late and met Sun on the path. Again he returned home to his mother without the needed medicine.

The next day Bat started out even earlier, but again he met Sun after he had already started his daily path. Again and again Bat tried to meet Sun at his house, until the seventh day, when Bat’s mother died.

Grief stricken, Bat cried out, “Sun has killed my mother! Had he only made the medicine my mother needed, she would be well. Sun is evil and from this day forth, I will not look at his face.  When he comes out, I shall hide myself in darkness and mourn the grief he has caused in letting my beloved mother die.”

To this day, Sun walks the path during the day, and Bat comes out to mourn his loss at night.
