During these difficult times, it is necessary to understand what it really means to gently reinforce messages of encouragement. Messages of encouragement don’t have to be over the top or fabulous. Many people do every day things that are small but amazing, and don’t have to be extraordinary to make for extraordinary change.
Every day is a struggle between the good forces and the bad. Massive forces of good abound, but the mainstream media mostly only presents the negative, as the survival instinct of humanity always looks for this aspect first, and this is the stronger point of sale. Yet, the present is also a time when people are finally utterly inspired, purely through the modalities and technology we have, the communications we have, to really impart change through discussion and discourse, and to really act on it.
Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open ~ J.K. Rowling
These days every dream, every aspiration can be acted upon by the self and on one’s own. If one’s dream was to save a herd of Alpacas, Alpacas can be saved. Nothing is too quirky, or to silly. Anything can be done. This truly is the richest time in history to act upon selfless and selfish indulgences and wishes, and make them true. This is truly a momentous era to be seized and marveled at, not dismissed and forgotten, or an opportunity to be squandered or abused.
It may be harder to convey to a younger generation, because not only have they always had access to online media, but media influences have been telling them since birth that these things were always possible, that they were always going to be within reach, and that they were entitled to them. This has made for both a very endearing and tragically disempowered population of young people – perplexed when they didn’t need these things they were told they should have, and also angry when they didn’t get them.
An interesting lesson emerged as a counter emergence to the glut of advertising. People educated themselves, having been suffused with too much obvious and subliminal advertising, that eventually they began to develop a sense of taste and discernment. A bit of research goes into this type of living, but this is what young minds are for, and this is what people like to do: research, learn, adventure, and find the truth about life.
The problem with most propaganda efforts is that it affronts people by saying that even sacred religion has to be marketed, that everything has to monetized, including our beliefs, our thoughts, our votes, our age, our looks, our very beings. And that in the end, the entire world would depend on whether our sum value as humans was good, our morals valid enough, that we had been ‘good boys and girls’ to have deserved the acknowledgement of our economic ‘Gods’ grace.
This above all: to thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man ~ Shakespeare
And logically, people, like myself, thought the more they tried, the better the world would become, and that perhaps the better they were as people, the better they treated the animals, the planet and the people, the better they would do as a people, as a planet, with their animals, for their future.
Advertising continues to prevail, however, and as such, words of love never found their way through the year of 2015. We have all unfortunately suffered through catch phrases such as “be the leader”, or “game changer” or “fighter” when in fact so many of us really had just as much right to be placid, ineffective and lazy humans and to just be the lover, peacemaker or to simply be boring. We have every right to look like we want to look and stay at home, to spend nothing, and to stay single if you feel you want to. These days we can choose to celebrate “being yourself no matter what.”
Words of love equate words of self-love. Words of self-love equate words of love for all. If you treat yourself with respect, and not buy into a line that tells you that you will be meaner if you buy it, more powerful – that’s a red flag and can feed into an ideology. Be careful of those pleas. You matter, and there are many words out there trying to entice you to think in a certain way, but they won’t look after you. They are trying to sell product and the business models of “being a leader”, “changing the game” and “being a fighter” are obviously not working.
You have to keep working on seeing through that and looking for the words of love. You matter more, in the grand scheme of things. Be kind, it still works for me. Be discerning in what you read in the media messages, so that you can remain positive.
Words of love includes being yourself, which may actually be anything you choose to be – boring, thoughtful, compromising or single. These are words of self-love. And then I can assure you, you will say the words, “I love you” and these will be words of change. And these will be words of love, and your planet will love you for it.
