It used to be so simple 20 years ago to call on my spirit guides to aid me in helping others. I would grab my Tarot cards, a pretty shawl to cover my small reading table, a donation jar, and a couple of chairs. Armed with these items, I would then head out for a day at a local psychic fair.
There would be people lined up all day long for psychic readings. About four to six psychics would be at their individual tables in a park, or inside a metaphysical store. We would laugh, cry, and get excited about the stories we were given by our guides to relay to the seekers sitting across from us. We might have some sun or rain to deal with, but little else to make the process difficult. At the end of the day, we would all say how fulfilled we felt. Then we would head home.

Fast forward to 2013! When it comes to offering psychic readings, things looks very different these days. I wake up at 4am. The first thing I check is to see if I have electrical power in my home. Since I live in Central Mexico, in an indigenous village, having electricity is not always a given. Then I check to see if my Internet satellite is working, which is also is not a sure thing. Then I take the hardwired phone off the receiver and see if it is working.
If all is in working order I get ready to work at one of two computers. A backup computer is always a good idea, as power surges (even through a UPS box) can be very hard on computers). Next, I flip a switch to electronically place my Apple computer in Mexico. Yes, I know it is physically in Mexico, but it sometime pretends that is elsewhere. I then sign on to use my Mexican hard-wired phone.
On a typical day, starting at 4am, I get my first calls in the wee-early hours from Australia, Europe and South Africa. From about 7am more of the calls originate from the USA, before people start heading to work.
I live on a small ranch, so I sign off at 9am and do farm chores, take a shower, eat, and get ready. Then I load up my dogs and head into my office.
I arrive at my office at about 10:30am and stay until 4pm. My first job in the office is to see if I have electrical power and high-speed Internet into my personal computer. That Internet system usually works. After I get out my PC and check in DOS (yes, there still is a DOS language) to see where the input is coming for my video that day, via the high-speed service. I get in and change the settings to make the video work so seekers can see me. I change my computer’s location to USA (my computer is pretending to be there now). I open Skype to make that connection to my USA phone number.

Next, I open the PsychicAccess.com site and sign on for video chat and phone conversations. I email all of those who called me from home. Then I turn on the other computer, another Mac, and start writing, while I wait for psychic reading calls.
On a typical day, I therefore access four different computers! Making my psychic reading skills available to seekers is a much bigger financial and time investment today than it was 20 years ago. But there is also a lot of added benefit. People from all over the world are now able to call me in that tiny office in Central Mexico, due to an array of electronic systems working together.
Outside my office, burros walk down the cobblestone street carrying alfalfa from a field to animal pens at their home. Very few of them own vehicles. Children walk to and from the four Mexican public schools nearby, as well as the health clinic. I hear children’s giggles in the background, blended with roosters crowing while I laugh, cry, counsel, comfort, and share empathy with people by phone or chat during those five hours in my office.
At the end of the day, all the technology has to be put ‘back to bed’. I say a little prayer that the next day it still all works, but if it does not, somehow my boss will help me find an answer.
What I never have to worry about are my Spirit Guides. Just like back in the park or store front 20 years ago, they helped me to serve seekers regardless of the technology working with us, or not. Isn’t that simply amazing?
