Working with Spirit can become confusing when trying to discern just who it is exactly that we’re communicating with. Terms like Spirit Guides, Ascended Masters, Angels and many others are casually tossed out in conversation, but the distinction is not always made, or can be confusing. For this reason I have compiled a quick guide to the Who’s Who in Heaven and how to best work with each group.

Angels

These beings are pure Love and Light. According to many sources, Angels have never had a human incarnation. They serve as guides, gently nudging us and sending us unconditional love, but never overstepping the Law of Free Will unless it is a life threatening situation before our contracted time.

Angels are our constant guides, steering us on our journey through life and helping us to achieve our dreams. You know you are in contact with an Angel if you feel warm tingles, unconditional love, or a sense of peace and well-being.

Ascended Masters

Unlike Angels, these loving teachers and guides have experienced a human life experience on Earth. These beings have achieved self-actualization, or an ascended state of being, and have come into alignment with their Higher Self.

Working with an Ascended Master will give you the opportunity to clear your karma and release any limiting beliefs that are hindering your soul’s journey to realizing your God Self. Like Angels, you know you’re communicating with an ascended master when you feel a sense of peace and well-being.

I find that Ascended Masters also like to give repeated physical clues to their presence in your life, such as books finding their way to you, or overheard conversations.

Deceased Loved Ones

Often confused with Angels, this unique group of souls consists of our passed over loved ones. These beings can be bound to us through love or unfinished business. When communicating with a deceased loved one it is important to use your discernment. If you would not trust this individual’s opinion in life, don’t assume that their crossing has made them more spiritually aware. They may still be working on those same issues.

You know you’re working with a deceased loved one when you are given clues that have meaning toward their physical life like seeing a favorite flower, smelling their cologne or hearing a song with meaning to them repeatedly on the radio.

Spirit Guides

In my experience Spirit Guides is a catch-all phrase used to represent all of our allies in Spirit from Angels to Deceased Loved Ones to Ascended Masters, and beyond.

However, others define Spirit Guides as a group of beings who guide and serve us and who like the Ascended Masters have experienced a lifetime on Earth. However, unlike Ascended Masters, they have not ascended and may still be working off some karma or other lessons while in our service.

I invite you to tune into your own intuition and determine which definition resonates as true to you. The best way to work with Spirit Guides of either definition is to request the Highest Guide available to you that is in alignment and integrity with your Highest Life Purpose. This will ensure that you are communicating  only with beings of Love and Light.

This is just a brief compilation of the main players on our ‘Spirit Team’. It is important to remember that this is in fact a team – a team in which you are the Most Valuable Player (MVP), so don’t hesitate to ask for clarity and assistance if you are confused about who you are working with. Any God-sanctioned guide is required to disclose their identity to you and to serve your Highest Good, and their advice will never bring harm to you or anyone else.
