We have to actuate what we learn. Talking is not becoming. We need to apply what we learn and know. Just like we know how to diet and exercise, it does not do us much good unless we apply what we know.
We all have a Higher Self that is connected to Source. Teachers, gurus, meditation, are all tools that we use to bypass the Mind in order to speak to our Higher Self, our Soul Energy. They are tools that create a pathway for Soul to have a voice, the dominant voice, in our day to day life. It is what Einstein was referring to when he said we cannot possibly solve a problem with the same mind that created the problem. We shift consciousness to access our Higher Self.
People sometimes ask why spiritual messages seem to come as riddles or hints. Language (most of the languages of industrial nations) is straight forward and linear, therefore the mind can run interference. Riddles and hints come in under the radar of the controlling mind and become surprise trap doors that lead us to enlightenment. This by the way is also the power and allure of the arts. They can bypass the mind and awaken us to a new more profound experience – in spite of our mind! Art moves us, and then we in turn are moved and change as revelation rises to the top like a lone bubble loosened from beneath a rock in a muddy pond.
Richness is not about what you have. It is about who you are ~ Bob Proctor
This means we have to learn to be sensitive to messages that come to us, as they come as hints, not as earthquakes. If we are preoccupied with the unending details of life, if we cannot sometime clear our mind, there is no room in our ‘busy as a bee’ mind to notice the gentle drifting of intuitive messages that come to tap us on the shoulder. This is the power of inner stillness and waiting; Yin energy becomes a place of power. When we become unwilling to move until we are moved – this is the muscle that spiritual practice develops in us. The power to wait… to not fill in the blanks. Be willing to not know, until the knowing is revealed or reveals itself.
The mind believes itself to be Master. This is reinforced by our culture that admires linear left brain skills. Therefore it takes courage to abandon this false god and take a stand on the power of stillness, waiting, receptivity. The Mind, typically in partnership with Ego, wants earth things – cars, career, mate. And from that position, interprets events and information from that perspective – the perspective of desire. In fact, the Mind can often lead us in worship. Worship is defined as: the reverent love and devotion accorded a deity, an idol, or object. So what we love and are devoted to can become a form of worship.
If our thoughts are consumed with thinking about getting our new car, or getting that woman or man we feel an attraction too, we are in a form of worship. We literally chant to ourselves throughout the day as we fantasize about the things or people we want. And this behavior is encouraged by Western thought – visualize what you want, the Law of Attraction. But what we forget to ask is, which part of us is doing the wanting. The Ego driven Mind, like a small child, wants its chocolate and wants it now, with no thought to consequences. Desire, when focused on lower concerns of the physical body, is a trap.
We have a choice about desire – we can choose physical body gratification, or we can use the power of desire to pull us to our Soul Body, rather than our physical body. This is a skill of maturity. Just as we learn to reign in lust (realizing its shortcomings and how that can trap us) and instead seek out connection and love, we can reign in our lower desires and refocus it to a higher desire – a desire to evolve as a Soul and to expand our state of consciousness; a desire greater than being on the wheel of reincarnation.
We cannot get off the Karmic Wheel unless we make it clear that our intention is to do just that. If we choose to follow our lower body desires, to only please the Mind’s desires in this life, we enslave ourselves to the effects of karma and fate. We are born into fate (that we choose for ourselves before we came here), what we do with our fate, is our destiny, our life lesson.
Follow your bliss and the Universe will open doors where there were walls ~ Joseph Campbell
Determination, will, and employment of concentration are our spiritual tools that can get us off the Ferris wheel of reproducing Karma and getting beat up by our own desires. Typically we do not make an effort to get off the wheel until we have hit rock bottom – endless repeats of lessons, or getting stuck in what seems a long dark tunnel with no end usually are what it takes for us to become determined to step off the Ferris wheel of pursuing earthly desires.
Spiritual exercises are a requirement. So before you protest, let us remember that we do earthly exercises every day – chanting and focusing on ‘I need more money’, ‘I want a partner’, ‘I need to lose weight’, and so forth. So this is not a question of doing more, but rather, doing what we already do, but now consciously making different choices on where we place our attention and focus!
The trap of the Law of Attraction, in an unenlightened state is that we have no idea of our unconscious desires and we layer on top of those, our requests for earthly results. The problem is, we attract our unconscious desires as they exist at all times, whereas our ‘I want’ requests, if we are lucky, we remember to ask for them a few minutes a day. So, we may want a perfect mate, to lose weight, to have money, and we ‘put it out there’ that we want these things. However, what we really think is, we are not worthy of that desirable mate or money, maybe we are not even loveable. Guess what we attract then? Someone who shows us that we are indeed not loveable, or not desirable, because the ingrained unconscious beliefs are a stronger and longer chant than our ‘let’s do an affirmation and ask for what we want’ exercise for a few minutes per day. To me this is a dangerous Western or New age culture distortion of the Law of Attraction and typically the people who peddle this ‘put it out there and you will get it’. When I see them a year later, they are still fat and single, and not rich.
One solution is years of therapy to dig out and address our unconscious issues that seem to be blocking our ‘getting what we want’ culture. Another is to get ‘out of our mind’ and invite in another energy. This can only be done by work – spiritual work that can liberate us from our small ego driven mind. This takes discipline, as our mind tends to rule us. We need to take our attention and attitude and place it on what matters – spiritual energy, the empty cup, Jesus if you are a follower, God or Goddess or Yoda. The substance of what we are is where we put our attention! How you feel about what you put your attention on is your attitude and together these determine your state of consciousness, and your level of vibration.
You create your life through the inner power of your being, whose source is within you and yet beyond the selves that you know. Use those creative abilities with understanding abandon. Honor yourselves and move through the godliness of your being ~ Jane Roberts
Our puny little mind and ego will try to talk us out of this evolution – away from Soul or our Higher Selves. When we sit to meditate, we will face rebellion, confusion and rejections. These are products of being ‘stuck’. We try to hide our issues from others, and from ourselves. We rebel against growth, we create confusion in our mind so we have an excuse not to grow, and reject growth because we are afraid we simply cannot make it through to the other side of our issues. Connecting with a Higher Source gives us enlightened strength. It is here we can develop detachment; detachment from outcomes and strengthen our commitment to where we place our attention and how we focus our attitude. Sitting brings in an energy that can overcome what the mind cannot, and in fact overcomes what the mind creates. We are erasing the ‘white board’ so to speak, and asking another source to write the new script. This is the true Law of Attraction. We are inviting in an energy to give to us what we need for soul evolution, not things that give us puny ego gratification. Only what we want in our consciousness can be there.
So, if we want to obsess about a mate, so be it. If we want to instead, place our focus on a Higher Power, that is what will fill our mind and soul and energy field. And then we can receive guidance, rather than following our obsessions! This is not denial, it is choosing. We choose to surrender to a Higher Power rather than surrendering to the clamoring demands of our ego driven mind. We make this choice every second of every day; we surrender to the chants in our mind, or we surrender to a Higher Source. It is something we do that is as natural (and as unconscious) as breathing. To change this, we have to become attentive, mindful. What are your thoughts? Do you want those thoughts or do you want instead to choose a higher path? We can ask ourselves this question throughout the day. Then we can wait and give that higher energy a chance to whisper to us, and give us a chance to hear it, and follow it, rather than the dominating conversation that inhabits our mind.
We need to remember we choose a life for a reason (to learn and have fun) and we came here because we want to be challenged to evolve. So where does a numerology life chart come into all of this? We can use our chart to identify our areas of growth. We can determine if we are running away from our lessons or facing them. We can determine if we have real strengths in a particular area, or if we are lying to ourselves. We can then also identify the areas where we need to surrender – to invite in a higher, different energy, soul energy, to help us overcome the lessons we chose for this lifetime, and to bravely face the obstacles we created for ourselves to ensure our growth and evolution as a soul. This proactive approach takes us out of victim mode, into warrior mode! We chose the obstacle course, and now, instead of bemoaning our fate, we tackle our fate and guide our destiny.
